Sustainability

In his 2018 State of the City Address, Mayor Tate stated that we need an additional eight police officers, yet the city apparently has no money for this. The Mayor also stated that we need a substantial increase in spending on road repair, which we also cannot afford. At the same time residents are under water restrictions, we have few if new roads, schools or other infrastructure projects due to funding, yet the city continues to allow more housing that increases our population even though we don’t have enough resources for our current residents. This is not sustainable.

Any reasonable plan for our city has to be sustainable. It needs to consider our city’s budget, our natural resources and impacts on congestion to determine if it is something we can maintain. If we do not have enough water to meet the reasonable needs of our existing residents, why are we bringing in more people? Again, this is not a reasonable or sustainable plan.

Our focus has to be on the needs of our current residents first. After all, the council is supposed to represent us and follow our direction, not the other way around. Because of this, we must reconsider our planning to focus on infrastructure, public safety and the sustainable use of all resources in order to ensure that this family friendly community can thrive for this and future generations.
